From the Heritage Foundation this morning:
"Yesterday, Democrat Kathy Hochul won a three-way special congressional election in New York's 26th district.
"But despite what the liberals and the media might tell you, this election boiled down to one thing: the left’s willingness to do absolutely anything to stop the sort of reforms our children and grandchildren desperately need.
"They ran a Democrat as a Tea Party candidate in an effort to deceive voters and muddle the values for which we are fighting.
"They flooded the district with millions of dollars and all their big-name, big-government, big-spending stars.
"They told lie after lie about Paul Ryan's budget plan to save Medicare."
This special election was a prime example of the kind of demagoguery and scare tactics we should be prepared to counter in the 2012 elections. They preyed on the fear of elderly voters, with the time-proven claims that anyone who promotes fiscal responsibility wants to take away their Medicare and Social Security. They brought in all the big guns to convince people that only the left wants to save their social security, totally ignoring the fact that the current path is the path to bankruptcy.
Take a lesson from this election. This is a district the Republicans never should have lost.
